FAQ

How do we use the daily planner?

This will come home each night. Please read what your child has written and initial where they wrote. You may write a note to me in this.  I will check them each morning. Their homework assignments will also come home in this.

What about Classroom Volunteers?

Volunteers are always appreciated! A volunteer sheet will come home early in the school year.  In order to volunteer at Harmony you musthave a background check and participate in the confidentiality training that is available throughout the year (the first one is the night of Parent Orientation). Background check forms can be picked up from the front office. You may contact Karen Clark in order to view the confidentiality training on video in the library.

Can my child eat breakfast at school?
Yes, but please try to have your child to school at an adequate time for them to come check into the classroom, get breakfast, and still have time to get settled before the bell rings (those breakfast lines get long!).  Breakfast becomes a distraction if it is postponed until the last minute.  Your child knows they must check in with me and make their lunch choice before going to breakfast.

Do you celebrate birthdays in class?

Yes! If your child has a birthday during the school year you may send in a small trinket for the class to celebrate if you wish. Harmony does have a NO food policy. Students may not bring in any type of food, candy or drink to celebrate with the whole class. Please let me know if you have any questions.

How do we use the Take Home Folders?

These are the decorative folders your child brought to Open House. They come home each night. Please have your child empty their folder at home and return any items in this folder that should come back to school. Homework sheets will be in this folder.

What about transportation changes?

You must send or fax a note if there is a change in your child's afternoon transportation schedule at any time during the year. I cannot accept an email or phone call to change your child's transportation arrangements.  Please make sure to include the date, your child's first and last name, my name, and the details of how they will get home.

Can I have details on the Wednesday Folders?

You will receive a white folder from the office each Wednesday that will contain any important papers that need to come home. Please empty, sign, and return it to school the following day. Remind your child to turn in any forms you return. There is a charge for lost folders.

Can my child bring in a snack and a water bottle?

Snacks and fluids are very important to keep our brains working throughout the day. Please send a healthy, peanut-free snack in with your child each day. This needs to be something that is easy to eat and does not need to be heated up. Please send in a water bottle with your child that they can drink from throughout the day. Please DO NOT send anything with them in this container other than water.

How can we communicate between home and school?

I believe that parent/teacher communication is vital in the success of your child. I welcome any and all communication that we may have to ensure your child's success in the classroom. Important on-going types of communication will be the classroom website and the student planner. In addition, please feel free to email me or call me with any concerns. (Please realize that due to confidentiality I cannot use your child's name or initials in an email.) Of course, I will also be available to meet with you throughout the year at your convenience.

What should I do if I have other questions?

Please email or call me! Please understand that I have very little time during the day to email and make phone calls.  This includes the 7:30-7:50 block of time before the bell rings due to the fact that students are already in the classroom. However, I will check my email and phone messages daily at planning and after school.
